What happens if a dog eats dog bones?

A dog eating dog bones may scratch its oral mucosa and intestine, causing oral inflammation and gastroenteritis. Regularly eating bones also easily blocks the intestine, with constipation, vomiting and belly pain. If the bones were stewed with many seasonings, they add metabolic burden and affect the gut and kidneys.

In most cases dogs will not eat their own kind’s meat or bones, because their keen smell detects the scent of their species.
