What Happens If a Bichon’s Tail Is Not Docked?

Bichon Frises generally do not need tail docking. If you do not dock a Bichon’s tail, it will remain in its natural state and will not adversely affect the dog’s health. In fact, docking can cause pain and discomfort, and if aftercare is poor it may even lead to wound infection.

If tail docking is truly necessary, try to do it within the first week after birth, or take the dog to a veterinary hospital and let a professional veterinarian perform it to reduce the risks of pain and infection.
