What fish are good for a planted (aquascape) tank?
Expert Answer
For a planted tank, it is generally recommended to keep fish such as cardinal tetras, harlequin rasboras, denison barbs, rummy-nose tetras, otocinclus, guppies, bettas, honey gouramis, pearl gouramis, discus, blue-eye rainbowfish, and golden topminnows. The main feature of these fish is that they do not nibble on aquatic plants and have some cleaning ability. They will not damage the tank’s landscaping or plants, and they help improve water quality.
It is generally better to choose smaller fish with relatively more vivid colors, as this makes the planted tank look more attractive under the lighting.
