What do sturgeon eat?

Sturgeon are carnivorous fish that generally eat small fish, shrimp, crabs, and clams. In captivity they are mainly fed small fish, which are easy to obtain, and prepared feed can be added for balanced nutrition. Most sturgeon live in marine environments and take nearby small fish as food, but their swimming speed is not very high so they catch relatively few. A smaller group are freshwater sturgeon living in rivers and lakes, feeding mainly on bottom fish, shrimp, and mollusks.
