What causes corneal edema in dogs?

Corneal edema in dogs has several causes. A common one is foreign irritation or injury — for example, sharp objects, dust, or bath water getting into the eye, or a blow to the eye — which can cause conjunctivitis or uveitis and lead to corneal edema.

Eye infection is another important cause; bacterial, viral, or other pathogens can cause tearing and conjunctivitis along with edema. Because the causes vary, diagnosis and treatment must be based on the specific situation.
