A cat’s rectal prolapse is usually from anal-sphincter dysfunction caused by constipation, diarrhea, or anal inflammation.
Straining from constipation or pressure from diarrhea weakens the sphincter, pushing inner tissue outward.
Severe prolapse will not self-recover and needs veterinary treatment.
