In severe cases appetite drops noticeably, very little stool is passed with straining, and the chinchilla often curls in a corner and stops moving.

1. Unbalanced diet — an improper feed mix, a sudden feed change, or too many treats with low water intake can all cause constipation.
2. Frequent handling stresses the nervous system, disrupting digestion and leading to constipation.
