What are the symptoms of a pregnant cat?

After a cat becomes pregnant it stops going into heat and is unwilling to mate with a male cat. Early symptoms are not obvious, but some cats become sleepy and eat more. As time goes on, the cat will not let others touch its belly and dares not climb or jump, and its nipples become red, swollen and larger.

Around 30 days into pregnancy the abdomen begins to swell visibly; at this point you can take the cat to a veterinary hospital for an ultrasound to confirm the number and development of the fetuses. After about 50 days of pregnancy the nipple changes become more obvious, and a small amount of discharge appears shortly before delivery.
