We have a small black kitten with very red eyes on both sides; the right is worse. It may have fallen. What is wrong?

A fall may be related to impact and external force. A cat’s lens has no blood vessels, so blood clots are usually in the anterior chamber, as seen in iris bleeding, hyphema or corneal vessel growth. A clot there needs thrombolytic medicine or it may raise eye pressure and harm vision, possibly causing uveitis or glaucoma.

The best approach is a veterinary eye exam to confirm the damage and treat it specifically. If a visit is not convenient, start with a pet-specific anti-inflammatory eye drop at home.
