Of the first 5 ingredients, if three are grains, not recommended; if the first is grain, skip entirely. Meat must be named. Meat meal is fine – good food’s meal equals pure meat in nutrition.

Avoid labels like natural pasture additive-free meat, poultry meat, animal meat, poultry by-product, 4-D meat. Poultry by-product is usually bone, organs, feathers. 4-D meat: dead, dying, diseased, disabled.

Plant ingredients in dog food

Grains (plant) are not necessarily bad; dogs are omnivores, some grain aids absorption. Some foods are grain-free, but grains split into allergen-prone and low-allergen.

Allergen-prone grains: wheat, corn, rice, sorghum (wheat and corn have higher gluten and easily grow aflatoxin in storage; grain-allergic dogs often chew paws and mouth – observe).

Low-allergen grains: brown rice, oats (also tapioca, potato substitutes).

Actually not all dogs need grain-free.

Added plants should not be too much poor plant protein, causing diarrhea and gut issues.

Many brands have mid, upper-mid, and premium lines; choose by your budget. Expensive is not always right for your pet; understanding dog food is the most responsible act. Do not compare your dog to others’; though you cannot give the best life, at least do not let it down.
