The kitten passed a little stool at birth and the anus is open, but when helped to eliminate it only urinates with no stool; the mother cat can’t care for it, and it can’t pass stool.

Newborn kittens need manual stimulation to defecate. Wear gloves and gently massage the kitten’s anus for 5–10 minutes, then lightly insert a cotton swab moistened with water or a little sesame oil into the anus.

You can also feed the kitten a little yogurt or honey water to promote intestinal movement and bowel movements. If the kitten still can’t pass stool, it may be constipated from stool buildup—inject about 0.5 ml of glycerin enema into the anus and wait around 10 minutes; the kitten should then be able to defecate.
