You can rescue a stray, adopt, or buy. A stray may carry disease, so vet-check and deworm it first and be ready for cost and commitment—or find a vetted adopter if you cannot keep it. Free adoptions are mostly Chinese Li Hua from people who gave up; 'free' is rarely free once medical checks are counted, and strict adoption contracts can be harsh. Buying is often the cheapest path to a known, healthy cat. Pick a pet-grade, healthy kitten ~3 months old, choose male or female by temperament, and always meet the cat in person at a reputable cattery or shop.
