1 Symptoms

2 What to Do
A cat with gastroenteritis needs a short fast to ease the gut, then treat the cause with anti-inflammatories, antiemetics, antidiarrheals, and fluids. Injectable anti-inflammatories may be used; for severe cases, metoclopramide or gentamicin-type antibiotics; if from overeating, probiotics rebalance the gut flora. Food should be soft, easy to digest, non-irritating — prescription diet or rice gruel.
3 Feeding During Enteritis
If there’s no vomiting, offer a little soaked kibble. Choose a low-fat food — avoid high-fat kibble. Since the inflamed gut reacts badly to trigger foods, switch to a gastrointestinal prescription diet.
