1. Environment management
Choose a properly sized tank. Silver arowana are medium-large, fast-growing fish, so pick an aquarium at least 150 cm long, 50 cm wide, and 70 cm high. Too small a tank limits space and growth and makes turning hard, deforming the body. They also jump, so fit a lid on top.
Ensure enough light. Light drives growth; give natural light but avoid long direct sun that fuels algae. Indoors, fit a tri-color white lamp.
Install the filter correctly. Cycle the tank first (age the water, fill, heat, aerate) before adding the fish, and build a complete nitrifying system with a well-matched pump and overflow.
Manage water quality. Best temperature is 24-29 C with pH 6.5-7.5. Arowana are sensitive to temperature swings, so keep it stable to avoid illness.
2. Diet management
They eat widely small fish, shrimp, crickets, mealworms, pellets but control portions: feed small and often, 2-3 times daily for juveniles to about 70% full, and every other day for adults.
Vary the diet; do not feed a single food, to give balanced nutrition.
