Silver Arowana: Morphology and Breeding Methods
The silver arowana is all silver, peaceful and easy to keep, but grows fast and can exceed 1 m, so it needs a spacious tank. It is a mouth-brooder: choose one healthy male (6–8 yrs, 50–60 cm) and one female (7–9 yrs, 40–50 cm), keep the tank absolutely quiet during spawning, and the male will carry 40–50 fertilized eggs in his mouth for about two months.
Blue Acara (Aequidens pulcher)
The blue acara (Aequidens pulcher) is gentle, but aggressive and territorial during breeding. It digs in the substrate; outside the breeding season it is calm and quiet and can be mixed with other ornamental fish.
Black Arowana
The Black Arowana is a South American freshwater predator from the Amazon and Guyana, born with two long barbels and flowing fins. Aggressive and best kept alone in a covered tank over 120 cm, it needs 24–28°C soft water and a meaty diet of live foods. Watch for white spot and tail rot.
