Red discharge after birth has several causes. In the first 1-2 weeks, the genitals release a little red or brown discharge as normal lochia, at first bright red then fading to pale yellow and clear, usually without foul smell. If past that period red discharge continues, or with fever, listlessness, poor appetite, think infection or retained tissue and see a vet for a gynecological exam.
