How to Treat Dog Alopecia (Hair Loss)
Alopecia, or hair-loss disease, is abnormal local or whole-body shedding outside the normal season. What causes it, and how is it treated? Here is an overview.

Why Is Your Dog Losing Hair? (Alopecia in Dogs)
Dog hair loss can come from scratching, parasites, infection, or disease. Diagnosis needs history and tests; treatment targets the underlying cause, plus flea control and gentle grooming.
My dog has developed patchy hair loss (alopecia)
The photo suggests the patchy hair loss comes from damaged hair follicles, which can result from bad shaving, bacteria, or folliculitis. Avoid irritating the spot and use topical gels or ointments to aid recovery.

Hair Loss (Alopecia) in Dogs and Cats: Symptoms, Causes, and Care
Hair loss in dogs and cats ranges from localized patches due to friction or harsh shampoos to generalized shedding from parasites, fungus, or endocrine disease such as hypothyroidism. Identifying the cause guides the right treatment.

Common Causes and Treatment of Ringworm in Cats, Dogs, and Rabbits
Ringworm (dermatophytosis) is a highly contagious, zoonotic fungal infection that strikes animals with weak skin immunity β especially youngsters and those in damp, dirty surroundings β and can pass to humans. Treatment means isolating the pet, clipping and disinfecting lesions, antifungal sprays or ointments (plus oral antifungals and B-vitamins for severe cases, with liver support), and thorough environmental cleaning; rabbits need ivermectin-based mite control to prevent it. Keep the home dry and ventilated, bathe sparingly with pet shampoo, and use a little sunlight to stop outbreaks before they start.

Can Dogs Go Bald?
Dogs can lose patches of coat for many reasonsβan autoimmune alopecia areata, follicular dysplasia in certain breeds, post-vaccine inflammation at the injection site, clipping stress, breed-specific pattern loss, a too-tight collar, or mites, allergies, hormones, and tumors. Most shedding can't be avoided, so deworm, disinfect, and brush regularly.

Why Is My Dog Losing Fur on Its Tail?
Why does a dog lose fur in patches on the tail? Tail hair loss can also be caused by parasites - especially in big-tailed dogs with thick, dense coats, where poor grooming and cleaning can lead to infestations.

Dogs Can Go Bald in Middle Age Too
Not all hair loss comes from skin disease. Let's look at why dogs go bald and which kinds you can actually fix.
Alopecia, hair loss, skin turning black, hard, thick; bumps, red, bleeding, oozing
The photo shows skin disease with large-area keratin damage, likely fungal or mite infection. Get a pro skin exam and scrapings; for mites, deworm and medicated bath. Keep the environment dry.
I’m in college but go home during holidays. I use minoxidil for alopecia; first semester at school my hair recovered a lot… (long context about cat safety). Should I avoid minoxidil entirely around my cat, or just keep it away from the drug and my hair/pillow?
Having a cat does not forbid minoxidil, but it is highly toxic to cats and dogs, which lack the enzyme to metabolize it. If you must use it, cage the cat, keep it away from treated areas and your pillow, wash pillowcases, and wash hands; always apply away from pets.
