My kitten is trembling all over, won’t let me touch it, is uninterested in food, and keeps convulsing—what’s going on?

There are many causes of constant convulsions and trembling in a cat, and it usually counts as a critical state needing immediate transport to a pet hospital for rescue and cause testing. First, if a kitten has an untreated disease or severe infection that worsens into shock—such as panleukopenia or FIP—a shocked kitten shows low temperature, trembling, reduced appetite, lethargy, and convulsions.

Also, if it strikes with no warning, it may be poisoning from swallowed toxins such as medicine, chemicals, or plants, causing whole-body trembling, convulsions, and poor appetite. Further, a kitten may tremble and convulse from low blood sugar due to poor diet, gut issues, or other metabolic problems; or the signs may relate to nervous-system issues like epilepsy or brain disease. Whatever the cause, a vet must diagnose and treat; owners should watch kittens closely and act early.
