My kitten has pus bumps and the vet is unsure of the cause – what should I do?

Hello, the photo shows broken, pus-discharging skin on the kitten’s abdomen, possibly from an umbilical hernia or bacterial infection. A ruptured hernia needs prompt surgery, usually with good results.

Clean the wound with saline and diluted hydrogen peroxide, disinfect with iodine, then use anti-inflammatory and tissue-repair ointment.

If severe, also give oral or injected antibiotics to prevent infection.
