My dog was diagnosed with pyloric edema and has had IV fluids for days with no improvement; what should I do?

Pyloric edema shows swelling and congestion at the pylorus on endoscopy, but the cause matters. Simple inflammatory edema can be treated with acid inhibitors, stomach mucosal protectants, antibiotics to prevent secondary infection, and fluids to avoid dehydration; it usually fades, after which avoid spicy food.

If active treatment shows no improvement, repeat endoscopy, full abdominal ultrasound, and blood tests to check for pancreatitis or the underlying cause. If a malignant disease like stomach cancer is found, surgical intervention is needed.
