My cat is a stray I took in March 2022, age unknown, and I never vaccinated or neutered it because of annoying spraying and yowling and a toddler at home. Is it too late to vaccinate then neuter now? Will it still spray after? Does neutering raise panleukopenia risk?

It’s advised to vaccinate before neutering, because surgery temporarily lowers immunity and without vaccines the cat is more likely to catch panleukopenia, herpes, or calici when exposed. Before surgery the vet does a basic exam, and if normal, neutering can proceed.

Whether it still sprays after neutering is uncertain; many cats spray only in heat, but if the habit formed, they may continue and need patient correction.
