How toxic is the tiger fish?

The tiger fish (freshwater) is not poisonous; it is just aggressive and predatory. The toxic one is the estuarine stonefish, also called sea scorpion, which some also loosely call tiger fish and which is common around Beihai in Guangxi, China. The stonefish belongs to the venomous scorpionfish family and is highly toxic; being stung causes intense throbbing pain and a burning wound, and in severe cases whole-body pain lasting days. There are also a few toxic gobies, especially the barred ghoul, which looks like a mudskipper but eating just two can be fatal; its toxin has a 0.5 to 3 hour latency and causes tingling lips and tongue, nausea, vomiting, limb weakness, and in severe cases full paralysis or death.
