How to tell a female pigeon is about to lay eggs?

If a female pigeon and a male pigeon chase each other, it means they are mating, and she will generally start laying eggs about a week later. Before laying, the female rarely leaves the nest, while the male constantly brings back dry grass, feathers, and similar items to build the nest. If the female comes out to feed, the male follows closely behind and keeps pecking her until she returns to the nest.

Just before laying, the female pigeon’s vent secretes some mucus and looks moist, and she becomes more alert, watching her surroundings nervously.
