1) Control the dog’s asthma allergens

To prevent attacks, staying away from allergens is key. Allergen testing is not available everywhere, so it usually takes a larger, proper clinic. Owners can still spot some allergens in daily diet and life — many dogs react to pollen and dust, so clean house dust promptly and keep the dog out of flower beds. Once you identify an allergen, avoid direct contact to prevent attacks.

2) Keep the living space clean and tidy

A good environment matters. Clean the home often, keep it ventilated, and if the air is dry, use an air purifier. The room should not be too hot — 23–25°C is most comfortable for an asthmatic dog.

Also, if anyone smokes, do not do it at home or in front of the dog, because secondhand smoke is an asthma allergen.

3) Stop intense exercise

Asthmatic dogs should not exercise hard. Excitement or strenuous exercise easily triggers an attack, so keep play calm and choose walking or swimming for exercise.
