3. Right protein and crude fiber: protein must be neither too high nor too low; raising it aids growth but excess is wasted and lowers crude-protein use. Crude fiber must not be too low, or rabbits develop pica and poor gut development, cutting digestion; keep it at a proper level.
4. Not too much energy: crude fiber should not be too high either, which is why all-concentrate feeding is discouraged; high-energy and all-concentrate diets cost more and, worse, speed cecal microbes, gas up the gut, and cause bloat. High-energy diets also lower a doe’s estrus and conception rates and cause diarrhea, constipation, or bloat in youngsters.
