How to help a dog give birth?

Normally a mother dog delivers on her own and needs no help, but a first-timer may fail to care for pups, so assist nearby. Around day 60-62 of pregnancy move her to a quiet, warm, dry, dim whelping box to adapt. Prepare thread, scissors, towels, formula, iodine and gloves; after birth, if she ignores the pup, tear the amniotic sac, clamp and cut the cord, and dry the nose and mouth with a towel for breathing. If she has no milk or refuses nursing, bottle-feed pet formula.
