How to Feed a Newborn Hamster

1 Feeding the Babies

Usually nurse, but if the mother lacks milk, use goat-milk formula via a small syringe, little and often, at 37°C; newborns every 2 hours, lengthening as fur grows.

Bedding at least 20 cm thick, soft and ventilated, with several hideouts. Clean wet bedding, bowl and bottle daily, wash the cage monthly but keep some old bedding so they keep their scent.

Do not keep checking — it unsettles them; never grab with hands or you add human scent and they lose their own. In winter, warm them or they chill and die. Keep babies with the mother for security unless necessary.

Keep the wheel and toys out of a mother-and-babies cage or she may ignore them or hurt them; if she carries a baby, she may be moving nest — do not worry, but ensure her food is ample or she may eat the babies.

2 Note
