How soon after birth can a kitten eat on its own?

A kitten can eat on its own about one month after birth. Newborn kittens live with their mother and drink mainly milk before one month; at one month they enter the weaning period and can start on supplemental food, eating by themselves.

For a just-weaned kitten, feed pet-specific goat-milk powder and guide it to eat on its own. The first time you feed goat-milk powder, make it a bit diluted, then once the kitten adapts, give the proper concentration. After two months, you can start milk-cake kibble; the first time, soften it with warm water or goat milk before feeding, to avoid irritating the kitten’s delicate gut and causing vomiting or diarrhea.
