How Soon After a C-Section Can a Dog Drink?

A dog can drink 6 hours after a C-section. Before surgery the vet gives anesthesia, and while it has not worn off the dog must fast from water over 6 hours and food over 8 hours, per the vet’s instructions. Drinking or eating under anesthesia easily causes vomiting, and the vomit can choke the airway and threaten life, so follow the vet closely.
