Springer Spaniels molt seasonally twice a year, in spring and autumn, with heavy shedding then. They are a heavy-shedding breed that loses hair all year, just more in spring and autumn as they replace coat for the seasons.
Before winter they shed old hair for downy undercoat to resist cold; before summer the coat drops heavily to regulate temperature.
