A scorpion starts its first molt about 10 days after hatching from the egg, then molts about every 2 months; after 6 molts it becomes an adult and no longer molts. A newly hatched scorpion is a first-instar, after the first molt a second-instar, and so on, experiencing six molts in life. After six molts it becomes a seventh-instar, or adult, scorpion.
