How often does a chinchilla breed a litter?

A chinchilla’s gestation is about four months, so it delivers around four months after mating. It can breed all year, peaking from December to March. Avoid frequent breeding; 1-2 litters a year is best. Breed after one year of age and over 500 g to lower dystocia risk. Note a female comes into heat within a day after birth and again 10 days after weaning, but breeding too soon harms her, so separate the sexes during recovery.
