How many days can a dog survive with a punctured intestine?

A punctured intestine does not necessarily mean death. If only a small part is lightly scraped with little bleeding, the dog usually recovers quickly with good anti-inflammatory and hemostatic care, but you must also help expel the foreign object to avoid intestinal blockage. If the intestine is badly torn with heavy bleeding and is left untreated, the dog may die of blood loss within a few days.

If the foreign object punctures the intestine and enters the abdominal cavity, the dog will likely die within 24 hours. Therefore, if you notice blood in the stool from an intestinal puncture, take the dog to a veterinary hospital promptly.
