How many babies does a hamster usually have?

A hamster usually gives birth to 1-12 babies, most commonly around 5-8. After becoming pregnant, a hamster typically delivers in about 17-25 days. If you want to know how many fetuses there are, you can take your hamster to a veterinary hospital for an early ultrasound.

If a litter is very large, some of the fetuses may be weak with a lower survival rate. After the babies are born, the owner should closely monitor the pups, and keep the ambient temperature between 20-30 C to prevent the mother and pups from catching a chill and falling ill.
