First hold the dog still, flush the eye gently with clean water to remove all shampoo and foam, then towel-dry the face to ease discomfort.

Watch for scratching or red eyes — that suggests conjunctivitis from irritation. Use neomycin sulfate or another non-steroidal eye drop 3–5 times daily for about 5 days. Use an Elizabethan collar to prevent worsening infection or corneal ulcer.

2. How Long to Heal

If flushed promptly, there’s usually no effect and relief is immediate. With irritation and redness, eye drops clear it in about 3–5 days.

If no clear improvement after 3–5 days at home, or swelling worsens, see a vet for anti-inflammatory and eye care; proper treatment fully recovers it in 5–7 days.
