With active treatment, a dog’s pancreatitis usually recovers in about a week, but severe cases with many complications need longer. Treatment generally involves hospitalization and fluid therapy. If severe vomiting occurs, the dog may need a fasting period to reduce pancreatic stimulation.

If fluid has entered the abdomen, surgery may also be required.
