With active veterinary treatment, a dog with acute nephritis can usually leave the hospital in about a week, but needs medication for a while to consolidate. Chronic nephritis takes much longer.

Treat with nursing care, anti-inflammatory diuretics, and immune suppression, using penicillin or streptomycin to control infection and inflammation, plus anti-inflammatory and diuretic drugs. Untreated, acute nephritis easily becomes chronic and harder to treat.
