Siberian chipmunks generally do not hibernate; a hibernation state likely means they have entered false death from too low a temperature. In false death they still breathe, but weakly and with a cold body. If not treated promptly they die quickly, and after death breathing stops and the body stiffens.

Therefore the owner must avoid hibernation, and if a chipmunk enters hibernation, promptly raise its body temperature by applying a warm towel.
