How long does a mother dog bleed after giving birth?

Bleeding after a mother dog gives birth is lochia discharge, which usually lasts about a week. In the first days the lochia is red with blood, then after a few days turns pale yellow, then clear until finished. During this period the owner can feed the dog motherwort to help expel the lochia sooner.

If the lochia is not finished for a long time, or has a foul smell, the reproductive organs may be infected, so take the dog to a veterinary clinic.
