Pearl gourami eggs generally hatch in about 2 days, with the water temperature kept around 28C during incubation. The male pearl gourami has a nest-guarding habit: after the female lays eggs, the male takes responsibility for protecting them until they hatch.
About a day after laying, the eggs gradually darken, and the next day they hatch. Newly hatched fry carry a yolk sac and need no feeding; 1 to 2 days later, when they start swimming and foraging, the owner can begin feeding them.
