After neutering, a male cat usually needs to rest about 8 hours before it can eat, and can begin drinking small amounts of water after 6 hours. Because neutering requires an anesthetic injection, the cat must fast for 8 hours and avoid water for 6 hours beforehand, and also temporarily avoid food and water after surgery, to prevent the anesthesia from slowing intestinal movement and causing vomiting or even choking and suffocation from refluxed food.

Generally, the anesthesia has mostly worn off 6 to 8 hours after surgery, so you can start feeding the cat, but its appetite is usually poor at this point, so only feed a small amount.
