How does a dog get distemper?

Dogs usually catch distemper by direct or indirect contact with secretions such as saliva, feces, urine and vomit of other sick dogs, and dogs with low immunity are more likely to show symptoms after infection. Early distemper resembles a cold: cough, runny nose, fever, lethargy and poor appetite; later some dogs show digestive signs like vomiting and diarrhea, and severe cases show neurological signs like convulsions and spasms.
