For fleas on a dog, promptly do a full-body external deworming or medicated bath. After treatment, fit an Elizabethan collar to stop the dog licking the medication and poisoning itself. Also clean and disinfect the dog’s living area and belongings, and sun the bed to kill any flea larvae and eggs.

One deworming may not fully remove fleas, so repeat the external deworming about a week later, then deworm monthly to prevent recurrence.
