Introducing new fish to a tank can follow these steps: First, float the bag containing the new fish on the surface of the tank so the water temperature inside the bag gradually matches the tank water. This usually takes 15 to 30 minutes to avoid temperature-shock stress. After temperature acclimation, begin ‘drip acclimation’ – slowly add a small amount of tank water into the bag every few minutes, in several increments, so the fish can adapt gradually. Then, take the fish out and soak it in a 20 ppm potassium permanganate solution for 2 to 3 minutes. After disinfection, observe the fish’s behavior and body surface carefully to confirm there is no abnormal reaction. Once everything looks fine, you can carefully place the fish into the tank. When adding the fish, you can also add 0.5% salt to the water to disinfect and reduce the fish’s stress response.
