Unless there is a special reason, avoid shaving a German Shepherd, because its double coat provides warmth and protection from insect bites. Frequent shaving weakens its cold and heat tolerance.

If the dog has a skin disease, you may shave it. First play with the dog and give it a snack to relax, then clip only about 2 cm of hair around the affected area.

Do not shave too short, to avoid damaging the hair follicles and affecting hair regrowth.
