How can I tell male and female gourami fish apart?

Before sexual maturity, gouramis show little sexual difference and are hard to tell apart, but after maturity you can distinguish them by body shape and color. Female gouramis are shorter and rounder with a fuller belly, while males are slimmer with less visible belly lines. Also, females are duller in color and males more vivid. Finally, female gouramis have shorter, blunter dorsal fins, while males usually have long, slender, pointed ones.
