How alert is a Samoyed?

The Samoyed’s alertness is very low. Because of its gentle nature and friendliness toward all humans, plus modest intelligence, it cannot distinguish good from bad people and can easily be led away by strangers. It also lacks guarding ability.

Therefore a Samoyed suits only family companionship. If you want a more alert dog, consider a German Shepherd, Chinese rural dog, Chihuahua, Chow Chow, or Border Collie.
