1 Bonding With the New Family

2 Healthy, Familiar Food
If you can, do not switch the puppy’s food. And whether or not it can already eat dry kibble, when it first arrives you should soak the kibble before feeding; a younger puppy needs it soaked thoroughly soft.
If a switch is unavoidable, the soak-first rule matters even more — soaked kibble is easier to digest and helps avoid the stomach upset that moving home can cause.
Of course, doing all this does not guarantee no trouble. A delicate puppy may still show vomiting or diarrhea. First rule out serious infections like parvovirus; if those are cleared, you can try a short fast, some probiotics, and gentle physical care to help it recover. Always check with a vet or experienced breeder before giving any medication — never dose it yourself. Every case is different.
3 A Peaceful Place to Sleep
Most puppies coming home are young, and a young dog’s defining trait is sleeping a lot. A good sleep environment and enough rest matter greatly.
Prepare a bed matched to the season; if it is too hot or too cold, add cooling or warming as needed. The bedding should be dry and clean, not too large — just enough for the puppy to stretch out fully.
A crate also helps the puppy feel secure, since its ancestor the wolf is a den animal. On timing, let the puppy sleep whenever it wants and do not overplay with it — without enough sleep it catches illness easily.
4 If Stress Symptoms Appear
If your puppy shows poor appetite, low spirits, mild vomiting, or mild diarrhea after arriving, do not panic. Calm down, rule out the chance of a viral infection, then a steady mindset, more rest, sensible food, and a little play will all help it through this tricky adjustment period.
