1 Hamster Summer Care Guide (Part 1)
1. Set up a cool cage
Place the cage in a shady, airy spot and arrange it for cooling. Use breathable, cool bedding — not wood shavings (they trap heat and bacteria); urine sand or cat litter that absorbs odor and stays cool, plus some ‘free forest’ chews. For hamsters that nest, add a cool ceramic hut in a corner.
Also make a cooling corner with a cooling plate or pad, or smooth, washed pebbles, for rest during hot days.
2. Control the environment
If possible move the cage to an AC room, but keep the hamster warm there (warm bedding) so it does not get chilled; never leave AC on for it alone when you go to work (safety risk), and keep AC around 25°C. At night it cools and the hamster is active, so no need to keep it in the AC room.
