Hamster has yellow-brown stool, seems energetic, was given anti-diarrhea medicine from the seller, but two days later still has loose stool, just less severe. Possible causes: a window was opened for ventilation a few days ago, or it was fed raw carrot slices before.

There are many causes of hamster diarrhea. If it is food-related, adjust the diet promptly – stop feeding spoiled feed and excess fruits and vegetables, fast for half a day while giving probiotics to stabilize the gut flora, and for watery diarrhea give Mommy’s Love at the minimum dose plus oral antibiotics.
Fasting helps empty and rest the gut, but add a little glucose to the drinking water to replenish strength and fluids. Keep the cage clean to avoid bacterial infection, and clean it regularly. If medication brings no improvement, have a fecal exam at the hospital to check for internal parasites.

My hamster had some diarrhea, after medicine a bit better but eyes won't open, starting with the right eye then both; left slightly open today. Wiped with tissue, no dirt. Also a black patch on its bottom that won't wipe off and smells - from diarrhea or urine in the nest? →
